Job summary

EMBL-EBI in Cambridge seeks a Team Leader for Plant Genomics and Variation to guide the Ensembl plant/invertebrate resources and EVA. You will manage a ~15-person team, engage with global collaborators, and drive data resources for crops and genetic variation.

You will collaborate with EMBL-EBI partners, lead grant activity, and contribute to strategy and community standards. This role is based on site at Hinxton, with a strong leadership and research impact focus.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in a relevant field (bioinformatics, life sciences, computing, or statistics).
• At least 6 years in bioinformatics/genomics applied to plant science/breeding.
• Experience with genomics community and big data.
• Proficient in writing scientific publications and grants.
• Strong budget and staff management experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams and projects.
• Experience with AI methods for genomic annotation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary team of ~15 staff to deliver EVA and Ensembl plant/invertebrate resources.
• Collaborate with other Ensembl Team Leaders and EMBL-EBI partners to deliver integrated data flows.
• Identify funding opportunities and manage grant applications and life cycles.
• Present work at international meetings and publish scientific manuscripts.
• Engage with community standards groups and external collaborators.
