Job summary

EMBL-EBI seeks an internationally minded Team Leader to provide scientific leadership for Ensembl in plants, invertebrates and genomic variation, and to lead the EVA resources. Based at EMBL-EBI as part of the EMBL Faculty, you will shape strategy and collaborate with a global research community.

You will manage a ~15-person team, drive tool and data resource development, engage with external collaborators, and contribute to EMBL's strategic priorities in genomics and data sharing.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent experience in bioinformatics, life sciences or computing.
• At least 6 years in bioinformatics/genomics applied to plant science/breeding.
• Experience with genomics communities, ideally crops.
• Track record with genetic variation data and big data scales.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools.
• Budget and staff management experience.
• Proven scientific and technical writing including grants/publications.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary team of ~15 staff to deliver EVA and Ensembl crop/invertebrate/genomic variation resources.
• Collaborate with other Team Leaders to deliver integrated systems and data flows.
• Engage with external collaborators and standards organisations (AgBioData, GA4GH).
• Identify funding opportunities and apply for external grants.
• Present work at international meetings and publish results.
