Job summary

EMBL-EBI seeks a World-leading Team Leader for Plant Genomics and Variation to guide Ensembl plants, invertebrates and EVA. You will direct a cross-disciplinary team of bioinformaticians and software developers to advance data resources, tools and community engagement across crop species and pest vectors.

You will drive collaboration with global partners, implement community standards, and contribute to EMBL’s strategy as part of the Faculty.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent experience in bioinformatics/life sciences/compute or statistics.
• At least 6 years in bioinformatics/genomics applied to plant science/breeding.
• Experience with genetic variation data and big data (gigabytes to terabytes).
• Proven ability to manage budgets and grants lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Lead a ~15-strong team delivering EVA resource and Ensembl plant/invertebrate variation work.
• Collaborate with Ensembl Team Leaders and EMBL-EBI leadership to deliver integrated systems.
• Engage with external collaborators and standards bodies (AgBioData, GA4GH).
• Present work at international meetings and publish findings.
