Job summary

Spence in Belfast is seeking a Senior Pensions Administrator to lead day-to-day administration of Defined Benefit schemes, ensuring accurate benefit processing for members and trustees. You will mentor junior colleagues, review complex calculations, and contribute to client proposals, supporting business development and delivering compliant, high-quality service.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in Defined Benefit pension administration.
• In-depth knowledge of UK pensions legislation, regulations and codes.
• Strong understanding of scheme rules and complex/non-standard benefit calculations.
• Ability to review and check junior colleagues’ work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with members, trustees and advisers.
• Experience running day-to-day scheme tasks and maintaining service levels.
• Proactive, independent worker capable of resolving queries and driving improvements.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the day-to-day running of Defined Benefit schemes.
• Act as a point of contact for scheme members, trustees, and advisers.
• Perform and check complex benefit calculations (ill-health, divorce, or non-standard cases).
• Review and authorise the work of junior colleagues, providing mentoring.
• Ensure tasks are completed accurately, on time, and within service standards.
• Contribute to scheme exercises such as wind-ups, GMP reconciliations, and member communications.
• Support business development by providing technical input for proposals or client pitches.
