Job summary

Taylor Hopkinson is seeking a Protection & Control Project Engineer for a major offshore wind project in Scotland. You will support protection and control engineering across multiple projects, defining scope during development and evaluating third-party designs as delivery progresses.

Configure protection equipment, calculate settings, and contribute to scheme design. Experience in either design or settings is welcomed, with emphasis on diligence and clear technical communication across project

Qualifications

• A minimum of an HNC-level qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Demonstrable experience in transmission protection and control application specification, panel and scheme design, and protection settings calculation.
• Ability to demonstrate engineering diligence and to critically assess problems and solutions.
• Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts clearly to project and technical leaders.

Responsibilities

• Protect & control project engineer duties for offshore wind in Scotland.
• Provide protection and control engineering support across projects, defining technical scope in development phases and evaluating third-party designs.
• Configure protection equipment per application and scheme requirements, including protection setting calculations.
• Experience in both scheme design and setting preparation is ideal; applications from either area are welcomed.
• Assess third-party contractor FATs on protection and control equipment for new-build and retrofit projects.
• Support multi-disciplinary teams to identify risks and opportunities, contributing to digital design and standardisation work.

Responsibilities

• Protection and Control Project Engineer for a major offshore wind in Scotland.


• Provide protection and control engineering support across multiple projects, by assessing and defining the technical scope requirements during development phases, before evaluating third-party detailed designs as the project moves into delivery, predominantly panel and scheme designs.


• Configure protection and control equipment according to the application and scheme requirements, including the calculation and preparation of protection settings.


• Ideally, candidates will be experienced in both scheme design and setting preparation; however, we also welcome applications from individuals with expertise in either area.


• Assess and adjudicate third-party contractor factory acceptance tests on protection and control equipment for new-build and retrofit applications.


• Support multi-disciplinary project teams in identifying and managing engineering risks and identifying opportunities for the project to excel.


• Take responsibility for delivering required outputs to programme and participate in the development of our increasing digital design capabilities and scheme standardisation works.

Requirements

• A minimum of HNC-level qualification in Electrical Engineering.


• Demonstrable experience and skills in transmission protection and control application specification, panel and scheme design, as well as the skills to calculate protection settings for implementation.


• The ability to demonstrate engineering diligence and the confidence to technically assess problems and critically assess a range of solutions.


• Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to support informed decision-making by project and technical leaders.
