Job summary

Relay is seeking a senior Operational Research Scientist for its Last Mile Marketplace, to design, build and evolve optimisation models and solvers at the heart of Relay's last‑mile network. You will work alongside Data Scientists, Analysts and Engineers in a squad focused on developing the tech defining our last mile marketplace.

This is a senior individual contributor role joining Relay’s Data function, reporting into the Staff Decision Systems Architect, with opportunities to impact

Qualifications

• Experience in heuristics and/or mathematical programming.
• Proficient in Python, Rust, Julia or C++.
• Hands-on with production systems and large-scale optimization.

Responsibilities

• Translate operational requirements into optimisation models for scheduling, assignment and pricing.
• Develop and evaluate solution approaches using mathematical programming and meta-heuristics.
• Design and build bespoke algorithms, heuristics and solvers.
• Ensure solutions are scalable and adaptable to a growing operation.
• Benchmark and evaluate the performance of your solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering to productionise your solutions.
• Work with analytics to monitor daily performance and evolve your solution.
