Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen with the gynaecology service for a dual role of Lead nurse for Gynaecology Outpatients and Deputy Lead Nurse Colposcopist.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual with previous women's health experience to be part of our friendly dynamic multidisciplinary team
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills and have experience in managing staff within a clinical environment.
They will be expected to undertake audits and deputise for the lead nurse colposcopist.
Applications should be self motivated, flexible , forward thinking and be able to lead and develop the nursing team.
Ideally the candidate would be BSCCP accredited however we would be willing to train a suitable candidate in colposcopy.

- Responsibility for the management and delivery of clinical services within the Gynaecology outpatient department clinic
- With support from matron manage complaints, HR management, and resolution of incident forms and local governance issues.
- Providing professional leadership and management to all non-medical members of staff and work in conjunction with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- To work in partnership with lead consultants, matron, deputy assistant service manager, deputy general manager and general manager to manage provision and modify clinic resources and any strategic issues associated with the clinic. Ensuring that at all time there is appropriate clinical cover for the department and adjusting and escalating where required in order to ensure that clinical standards are maintained at all times.
- As an accredited Nurse Colposcopist works autonomously in a nurse-led Colposcopy and smear clinic to assess, diagnose, treat, and review patients referred to Colposcopy clinic.
- Escalate abnormal pathologies to the lead colposcopist

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To ensure that all clinical equipment that is required for the department is ordered and maintained so clinical standards can be maintained.
- Provide advice and guidance to junior members of staff and the wider trust
- Act as an advocate for the patient and relatives as required and support them through the decision-making process
- Collaborate with trust wide departments to escalate and prioritize patient care where needed and ensure that appropriate care is given to the patient when an inpatient stay is deemed necessary.
- Where appropriate to assist and cover clinical lists or endeavour to find a clinician who does have the expertise to cover
- Have a commitment to the development of initiatives and wide trust policies
- Use clinical standards to participate in the process of monitoring the quality of care delivered. Ensure that nursing practice is of the highest standard in line with trust and CQC standards
- Review the effectiveness of the nursing care provided and initiate any action that may be required
- To use effective communication and interpersonal skills to provide information, explanation, and reassurance to patients and families, and build an environment of trust and rapport, enabling patient empowerment
- To identify and uphold safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children in line with trust policies and refer to relevant services as necessary
- As an accredited Nurse Colposcopist, work autonomously in a nurse-led Colposcopy clinic, initiating and carrying out complex patient assessments and investigations. Managing and being accountable for the quality of own caseload working to the BSCCP/ NHSCSP guidelines.
- Demonstrate expertise in clinical practice in the speciality area, working within scope of knowledge and practice. To assess the needs of women requiring colposcopy referral to ensure that they receive a clinically effective assessment, counselling, and treatment plan.
- Be skilled in performing LLETZ procedures or willing to train.
- Have sufficient knowledge and adhere to existing failsafe mechanisms in place, ensuring patient waiting times, appointments, letters, and results are managed according to NHS Cervical Screening national guidelines.
- With support from the Lead Nurse colposcopist, update and utilise the Non-Medical Prescribing and Patient Directions Groups, patient information leaflets and local policies/guidelines for colposcopy
- Attend and present cases at colposcopy multidisciplinary team meeting
- Ensure accurate and timely input of data onto the colposcopy database so that robust information is collected, reported, and used to improve and provide better care
