Are you ready to make an impact in one of the UK's most dynamic and transformative public sector organisations? We are recruiting for the role of Lead Network Engineer within the in-house digital product and services department of a groundbreaking public sector entity that's reshaping the way public services are delivered.

The Role: Lead Network Engineer

As a Lead Network Engineer, you will lead the approach to designing, building, testing, implementing, and operating the corporate network. You will stay up-to-date with the latest technology offerings, both cloud and on-premises, as well as best practices for configuration and monitoring. You’ll contribute to the cloud migration strategy, governance, and best practices.

Responsibilities:

Strategic:

  1. Lead the Network Team in delivering solutions and services, ensuring network availability and quality.
  2. Act as a subject matter expert and design authority for the approach to networking, including Azure-based cloud network services, tooling, and platforms.
  3. Ensure the critical network infrastructure is optimized for security, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  4. Collaborate with the Information Security Team to ensure compliance with ISO27001, PCI-DSS, and PSN standards.
  5. Improve the legacy on-premise environment to enhance cost-effectiveness and agility.

Operational:

  1. Build, secure, and run new cloud platforms and systems, delivering a network for staff and residents.
  2. Manage projects, provide general support and administration workload, and monitor networks within agreed SLAs.
  3. Focus on clear, achievable principles and direction for services with the correct blend of cloud and on-premises technologies.
  4. Design and build best-practice network architectures, governance, and tooling.
  5. Ensure systems conform to recognized industry standards, including the National Cyber Security Centre 14 Cloud principles, ISO27001, PCI-DSS, and PSN.
  6. Proactively investigate and respond to all operational and security incidents, providing thorough post-event analysis and remediation.
  7. Develop a detailed disaster recovery plan for the network, contributing to incident response plans consistent with the corporate business continuity plan.

Leadership:

  1. Build a professional and capable network capability to manage projects, support and administration workload, and monitor networks.
  2. Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  3. Ensure alignment and shared understanding across projects, guiding teams to build the right thing, build it right, and control costs.
  4. Act as a Network Evangelist, supporting the digital and data Services in raising the profile of IT within the business by building relationships with customers and colleagues.

About You:

  1. Extensive experience in designing, implementing, administering, and monitoring a range of relevant network technologies.
  2. Understanding of cloud architecture and implementation features, including security services, primarily with Microsoft Azure.
  3. Experience working in a modern agile delivery environment (Scrum, Kanban, etc.).
  4. Experience working in an ISO27001 environment.
  5. Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on complex, multi-stranded, sensitive, and contentious security and technical information.
  6. Proven track record managing technical teams, including coaching and career development.
  7. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work on your initiative and with others to identify creative and innovative solutions.
  8. Relevant professional certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNP Enterprise, Palo Alto PCNSE, 500-220 ECMS, and Nutanix Certified Professional.

What's on Offer:

  1. One of the best pension schemes available.
  2. Highly flexible working model that champions work/life balance, including hybrid working (1 day in the office per week).
  3. The opportunity to be part of one of the most ambitious, pioneering, and intellectually challenging places to work in local government.
