Job summary

Mott MacDonald Glasgow seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater projects, oversee P&IDs and related systems, and guide a team of engineers throughout the project lifecycle.

You will collaborate with other disciplines, ensure adherence to client standards, and mentor junior staff while delivering robust, safe, efficient infrastructure solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Chartered Mechanical Engineer or higher is required.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
• Strong knowledge of the water and/or wastewater industry.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and standards relating to process industries.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the design, planning, and execution of the mechanical engineering aspects of projects.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to mechanical engineers and project teams; develop knowledge within the team.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and team members.
• Lead the development of mechanical design for water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects through the project lifecycle including P&IDs, valve schedules, pumps, tanks, process equipment, above ground pipework, lifting and access steelwork.
• Coordinate with Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process engineers in the wider design team.
• Ensure applications of client’s asset standards and engage in technical discussions on best practice and waivers.
• Work with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop safe, practical solutions through design, construction and beyond.
• Engage with the client to manage relationships and support them in achieving aims.
