Job summary

Aldwych Consulting Ltd is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design projects in London. The role involves ownership from concept to delivery, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring technical quality across the full project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has strong CAD and building services experience, a relevant Mechanical Engineering degree, and is chartership-active or on track. The hybrid role offers London-based work with home-work flexibility.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical/building services design experience.
• Experience in built environment or consultancy sector.
• Strong CAD and mechanical design capabilities.
• Project management and team leadership experience.
• A relevant Mechanical Engineering degree.
• Chartered status or working towards chartership.
• Strong knowledge of UK regulations and industry standards.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Genuine interest in sustainable and innovative engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects from concept through to delivery.
• Manage project scope, resources, programme and technical delivery.
• Review calculations, designs and CAD models for quality.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and ensure technical quality.
• Support R&D and introduce sustainable engineering solutions.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers.
• Collaborate with clients and contractors to deliver compliant solutions.
• Ensure designs meet relevant UK regulations and standards.
