Job summary

EQUANS is seeking a Lead Technical Operative – Mechanical based in Manchester, primarily at Manchester Civil Justice Centre. The role is permanent full-time, 40 hours per week, and involves leading the site engineering team, supervising planned and reactive maintenance of building services, and ensuring safety and compliance.

You will oversee fault diagnosis, coordinate spares, prepare method statements and risk assessments, and support the HMCTS contract as the on-site engineering champion,

Qualifications

• 5–10 years' experience in a similar high-demand mechanical FM role.
• City and Guilds - Mechanical Engineering Services NVQ Level 2 or higher.
• Competent Person Mechanical and Pressure Systems (CPMPS) qualification.

Responsibilities

• Lead the site engineering team and act as the engineering champion on site.
• Supervise planned and reactive maintenance to building services systems.
• Ensure safety, compliance, and thorough Risk Assessments / Method Statements for tasks.
• Develop spares availability and provide parts lists with timescales for remedial works.
• Coordinate with contractors and client representatives, maintain plant logs and KPI/SLA adherence.
• Participate in 24/7 maintenance cover and emergency contingency planning.
