Job summary

SYOS Aerospace in the UK is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer – UAS to lead mechanical design validation and engineering change activities for large-scale unmanned air systems weighing 200 kg and above.

You will translate designs for UK production, ensure drawings and data meet UK aviation and defence requirements, and collaborate with NZ-based design teams and production staff to deliver safe, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in mechanical design of large-scale airframes and heavy-payload unmanned systems.
• Knowledge of aerospace drawings and configuration management.
• Experience with 3D CAD using CATIA V5 or Siemens NX.
• Awareness of UK MAA regulations, DAOS, and CAA S2 approvals.
• Experience collaborating with international teams on regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design validation: review drawings, materials, and data for UK production.
• Provide technical design authority for safe engineering changes and repairs.
• Ensure structural integrity and compliance with CAA/MAA requirements.
• Manage engineering configuration, ECOs, and document control.
• Collaborate with production and procurement to resolve manufacturing challenges.
• Investigate issues and develop corrective actions to improve safety and reliability.
• Support design assurance and safety with the CVE and certification processes.
