Job summary

Rolls-Royce SMR is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer for Lighting Systems to provide end‑to‑end technical leadership across the lifecycle of lighting plant. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust, compliant lighting design for safety‑critical operations and emergency scenarios.

The role involves architecture development, specifications, verification and mentoring, with hybrid working options at Derby, Manchester or Warrington.

Qualifications

• Experience across the electrical system lifecycle in a regulated industry (nuclear desirable)
• Experience developing plant lighting systems for normal, emergency and escape conditions
• Understanding of UK/European lighting standards and regulations
• Lifecycle of electrical systems: specification, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning, maintenance

Responsibilities

• Provide electrical technical leadership for lighting systems across normal, emergency and escape conditions
• Develop lighting system architecture, specifications and detailed designs
• Assess and substantiate lighting designs against functional, performance and safety requirements
• Ensure compliance with UK and European lighting standards and regulations
• Guide project designers on lighting design principles, integration and compliance
• Support strategic planning, capability development and team growth in lighting engineering
• Identify risks in lighting design packages and support mitigation strategies
• Contribute to policies, design tools and technical documentation
• Represent electrical engineering in meetings, design reviews and regulator dialogue
• Drive standardisation of lighting solutions across the SMR programme
• Oversee contract partners delivering lighting design or analysis
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction within electrical discipline
