Job summary

Rolls-Royce SMR is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer - Earthing to command technical leadership across earthing and lightning protection systems for a nuclear‑grade power station. You will steer architecture, specifications and component selection while ensuring alignment with UK/international standards.

You’ll mentor engineers, engage with suppliers and regulators, and lead design reviews to maintain quality across the lifecycle. Hybrid site options include Derby, Manchester or Warrington.

Qualifications

• Experience across the electrical system lifecycle in a regulated industry (nuclear preferred but not essential).
• Strong knowledge in earthing and lightning protection system design, assessment, verification, installation and maintenance.
• Knowledge of UK/Europe earthing and lightning protection codes and standards.
• Experience developing earthing systems in high‑integrity environments.
• Knowledge of MBSE tools and systems engineering methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for earthing and lightning protection systems.
• Assess and substantiate designs to ensure compliance with UK and international standards.
• Develop system architecture, specifications, design documentation and component selections.
• Support designers with technical guidance and design review input.
• Lead technical reviews to ensure quality through project gates.
• Identify risks and develop mitigations during design and integration.
• Support capacity planning, long‑term strategy and team development.
• Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary engineering teams and stakeholders.
