Job summary

ABB is seeking an experienced Lead ICSS Engineer to direct the technical delivery of Integrated Control & Safety Systems (ICSS) projects across national and international energy and industrial sectors. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, drive design, testing, commissioning, and close-out, while ensuring safety, cybersecurity, and budget adherence.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or HNC/HND with significant experience.
  • Experience leading ICSS, DCS, PCS, ESD, and F&G projects in Energy/Oil & Gas.
  • Knowledge of safety, cybersecurity, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams of up to 10 engineers; mentor and promote best practices.
  • Deliver ICSS engineering solutions across the project lifecycle: design, config, testing, commissioning, close‑out.
  • Act as technical authority; review/approve deliverables; ensure safety and contractual compliance.

Engineering Section Manager

We are seeking an experienced Lead ICSS Engineer to lead the technical delivery of Integrated Control & Safety System (ICSS) projects across national and international energy and industrial sectors. This role combines hands‑on engineering expertise with team leadership, ensuring projects are delivered safely, securely, on time, and within budget while providing customers with high‑quality technical solutions and support throughout the project lifecycle.

Your Role And Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams of up to 10 engineers, managing workloads, mentoring team members, and promoting engineering best practices.
  • Deliver ICSS engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle, including design, configuration, testing, commissioning, and technical close‑out activities.
  • Act as the technical authority for assigned projects, reviewing and approving engineering deliverables and ensuring compliance with safety, cybersecurity, quality, and contractual requirements.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and customers to define technical solutions, resolve engineering challenges, manage risks, and ensure successful project execution.
  • Support project planning through the development of engineering estimates, resource plans, work schedules, and cost forecasts.
  • Provide technical leadership during installation, commissioning, start‑up, and site activities, resolving technical issues and supporting successful system deployment.
  • Engage directly with customers, contractors, suppliers, and ABB product development centres to manage technical queries, presentations, bid clarifications, and engineering change requests.
  • Drive continuous improvement through knowledge sharing, coaching, design excellence, lessons learned, and the application of standard engineering processes and tools.

Qualifications For The Role
  • Degree qualified in Engineering (or HNC/HND with significant relevant experience) and ideally working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering ICSS, DCS, PCS, ESD, and Fire & Gas (F&G) projects within the Energy, Oil & Gas, or Process Industries.
  • Strong expertise in the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of Integrated Control & Safety Systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of industrial communication protocols and standards, including Modbus, Profibus, and Profinet.
  • Strong understanding of engineering governance, including safety, cybersecurity, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders while delivering solutions on time and within budget.
  • Effective leadership, coaching, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to develop and support engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication and customer‑facing skills, with experience collaborating across customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal project teams.
