Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Hydraulic Modeller to lead hydraulic modelling and flood risk projects across the Leeds region. You will oversee 1D/2D modelling approaches, ensuring alignment with EA, NRW and local authority frameworks, and deliver inputs to economic appraisal and scheme design.

The role offers mentoring of junior staff, collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, and opportunities to influence modelling capacity across Leeds and the North. Chartered status preferred.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in 1D/2D hydraulic modelling and hydrology for flood risk and water infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, InfoWorks, with experience of linked river-floodplain models desirable.
• Strong knowledge of UK flood risk policy, EA technical standards, FCERM guidance and assurance processes.
• Experience working within major frameworks (EA, CDF, NRW) is highly advantageous.
• Experience integrating hydraulic modelling with appraisal, economics, environmental assessment and design teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, calibration and assurance of 1D/2D hydraulic models.
• Provide technical sign-off on modelling deliverables at senior level.
• Coordinate scopes, resource plans and budgets for modelling work packages.
• Mentor junior modellers, hydrologists and graduates.
• Engage with Environment Agency and local authorities; present outputs to non-technical audiences.
