Job summary

GE Vernova HVDC Transformer Centre of Excellence, located in Stafford, UK, seeks a Principal HVDC Transmission Transformer Design Engineer (Electrical) with 10–15 years of HVDC experience to lead design excellence and mitigate risks in high‑voltage transformer development.

The role focuses on ensuring design quality, supporting manufacturing transfer, and driving continuous improvement across global projects.

Qualifications

• Deep technical knowledge in transformer electrical and mechanical design.
• Extensive HVDC transformer manufacturing knowledge and experience.
• Significant experience in HVDC projects (10–15 years).
• Experience with FEA analysis.
• Experience with quality processes (RCA, DFMEA, Testing).
• Focus on quality excellence and early risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support on FAT and site issues.
• Communicate with customers and suppliers to present analyses.
• Support design-to-manufacturing transfer and ensure quality gates.
• Lead design reviews to meet quality and manufacturing standards.
• Drive standardisation and modularisation of designs.
• Identify and implement lessons learned for future designs.
• Update manufacturing capabilities and tolerances in designs.
