Job summary

Arcadis is seeking a Principal Substation Engineer to lead electrical design on projects across industrial, transmission, and renewable sectors in the UK. You will manage delivery across the full project lifecycle, liaising with clients and internal teams to ensure compliant, cost-effective substation solutions.

The role requires strong knowledge of HV/EHV, AIS/GIS, Amtech tooling, and experience delivering safe projects on time and within budget. Travel to UK sites will be expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience as substation/plant engineer to regulated standards.
• HV/Substation primary plant design deliverables and feasibility studies.
• Knowledge of transmission technologies and operation impact.
• HV & EHV Substation design (AIS/GIS) up to 400kV.
• LV distribution knowledge and power systems integration.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with clients from initial contact through delivery.
• Deliver small to medium projects with minimal support.
• Produce electrical design deliverables and reports.
• Coordinate with CAD, engineers, and other disciplines.
• Interpret National Grid specs and British/IEC standards.
• Identify and mitigate health and safety risks; apply CDM rules.
• Support bid development and related documentation.
