Job summary

Cotswold Archaeology is seeking a Principal Fieldwork Manager to lead the Milton Keynes office, overseeing fieldwork delivery and budgets across a portfolio of projects. The role blends office work with site visits and requires strong leadership and strategic planning.

You will manage staff, ensure quality control of archives and reports, and contribute to major tenders while travel between sites is expected. A full UK driving licence and MCIfA membership are required.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience managing commercial archaeological fieldwork projects.
• Commitment to quality and knowledge of British archaeology laws and guidance.
• MCIfA membership and a full UK driving licence; willingness to travel.
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage budgets, risks and tender processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Milton Keynes office fieldwork team and project delivery.
• Oversee fieldwork planning, logistics, risk assessments and methods.
• Ensure QA of archives and reports to CA standards.
• Prepare and review tenders and contribute to major bids.
• Manage budgets, resources and client relationships.
• Promote health, safety and staff development.
