Job summary

Aston Martin Aramco is seeking a Lead Model Design Engineer to head wind tunnel model design for the F1 aero programme, delivering precise, manufacturable components and ensuring quality and timing.

You will lead a cross-functional team across Aerodynamics, Model Design and Manufacturing, owning delivery, capability development and continuous improvement, while aligning with FIA requirements and test readiness in a fast-paced aero environment.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent experience with proven track record in F1 wind tunnel model design and development.
• Extensive mechanical design experience and advanced CAD capability (CATIA).
• Strong knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly, materials, manufacturing processes and wind tunnel model build/testing.
• Technical expertise in structural integrity, tolerances, positioning and verification; ability to assure design solutions across a team.
• Experience managing Model Part Generators with robust configuration, checking and release processes incl. FIA Restricted Wind Tunnel Testing requirements.
• Established people leadership and resource allocation experience to develop technical capability and manage competing priorities.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills balancing safety, quality, delivery, cost and risk.

Responsibilities

• Own the timing, quality and delivery of your allocated Model Design area, setting priorities and allocating resources to meet programme demands.
• Provide technical leadership and assurance across mechanical design, advanced CAD, DFMA, materials, manufacturing processes and wind tunnel model build and testing.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Model Build and other engineering functions to resolve design issues and remove barriers to delivery.
• Own Model Part Generator capability and priorities across your area, ensuring technical consistency and effective ways of working across Model Design groups.
• Assure configuration management, checking and release processes, including FIA requirements.
• Drive model quality, test readiness and test efficiency, coordinating responses to design-related issues affecting the test programme.
• Act as principal delivery interface for your area, aligning cross-functional priorities and escalating risks to the Head of Model Design.
• Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team, setting objectives and promoting accountability.
