Aston Martin Formula One Team is seeking a Lead Model Design Engineer for Wind Tunnel Model Development at Silverstone. You will lead design, delivery and technical assurance across wind tunnel models, translating aero concepts into precise, manufacturable components while driving continuous improvement.

With a background in F1 wind tunnel model development, you will guide cross-functional teams, manage priorities, and ensure test readiness and quality for competitive aero performance.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent with proven wind tunnel model design delivery in F1.

Responsibilities

• Own the timing, quality and delivery of your Model Design area within the wind tunnel programme.
• Provide technical leadership across mechanical design, DFMA, and assembly.

Aston Martin Formula One Teamastonmartinf1.comEngineering · Silverstone, United Kingdom# Lead Model Design Engineer – Wind Tunnel Model DevelopmentFull time Closes in 13 daysLead the development of wind tunnel models that drive aerodynamic performance in Formula 1.We’re looking for an experienced Lead Model Design Engineer with a background in Formula 1 wind tunnel model development to lead the design, delivery and technical assurance of a key area of our wind tunnel model programme.Working at the interface between Aerodynamics, Model Design and Manufacturing, you’ll ensure aerodynamic concepts are translated into precise, robust and manufacturable model components, delivered to the quality and timing demanded by a competitive F1 environment.This is an opportunity to combine deep technical expertise with team leadership, taking ownership of delivery, developing engineering capability and driving continuous improvement in how we design, build and prepare models for testing. Your work will directly influence the quality and efficiency of aerodynamic development as we strive to challenge at the front of the grid.### Key Responsibilities* Own the timing, quality and delivery of your allocated Model Design area, setting priorities and allocating resources to meet programme demands.* Provide technical leadership and assurance across mechanical design, advanced CAD, design for manufacture and assembly, structural integrity, tolerances and verification.* Work closely with Manufacturing, Model Build and other engineering functions to resolve design issues, manage non-conformances and remove barriers to delivery.* Own Model Part Generator capability and priorities across your area, ensuring technical consistency and effective ways of working across Model Design groups.* Assure configuration management, checking and release processes, including compliance with FIA Restricted Wind Tunnel Testing requirements.* Drive model quality, test readiness and test efficiency, coordinating responses to significant design-related issues affecting the test programme.* Act as the principal delivery interface for your area, aligning cross-functional priorities and escalating significant technical, resource and programme risks to the Head of Model Design.* Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team, setting clear objectives, supporting individual development and promoting accountability, collaboration and the Team Values.### Skills, Knowledge & Expertise* Engineering degree or equivalent experience, with a proven track record of leading delivery in Formula 1 wind tunnel model design and development.* Extensive mechanical design experience and advanced 3D CAD capability, ideally including CATIA.* Strong knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly, materials, manufacturing processes and wind tunnel model build and testing.* Technical expertise in structural integrity, tolerances, positioning and verification, with the judgement to assure design solutions across a team.* Experience managing Model Part Generators, alongside robust configuration, checking and release processes, including FIA Restricted Wind Tunnel Testing requirements.* Established people leadership and resource allocation experience, with the ability to develop technical capability and manage competing priorities.* Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills, balancing safety, quality, delivery, cost and risk in a fast-paced engineering environment.Make an impactAt Aston Martin Aramco, you’ll help ensure our wind tunnel model development keeps pace with the demands of aerodynamic development.
