Job summary

National Gas is seeking an experienced Lead Estimator to deliver expert cost estimation for major infrastructure and engineering projects across Scotland and the North region, with occasional travel to Warwick and other sites.

The role requires leading estimating activities, developing methodologies, supporting investment decisions, and mentoring the team to maintain high standards of accuracy and commercial insight throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading complex cost estimates in infrastructure, engineering, utilities or construction.
• Ability to deliver high-quality estimates independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong technical expertise in estimating, cost planning, budgeting, forecasting and risk analysis.
• Experience influencing senior stakeholders and challenging major project estimates.
• Experience developing estimating methodologies, standards and best practice frameworks.
• Knowledge of contract management and procurement processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation and assurance of complex cost estimates for major projects.
• Provide expert estimating advice and guidance to project teams and stakeholders.
• Develop robust estimating methodologies, assumptions, risk allowances and cost models.
• Challenge project scope and delivery strategies to improve estimate quality.
• Drive best practice and continuous improvement across the project portfolio.
• Lead tender evaluation and benchmarking to ensure value for money.
• Support investment decisions through cost forecasting, reporting and analysis.
• Mentor colleagues and promote estimating excellence.
