Job summary

Yorkshire Water is seeking a Lead Design Engineer for the Engineering Design Team. The role spans civil, mechanical, EICA, and process engineering disciplines, driving technical leadership across major water infrastructure projects.

You will mentor engineers, ensure design quality and compliance, and collaborate with partners to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions within the AMP8 programme. Hybrid working in Bradford/Leeds with weekly office presence.

Qualifications

• Significant engineering design experience within water, wastewater or bioresources.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Experience delivering multiple workstreams against deadlines.
• Knowledge of QA and document control principles.
• A commitment to safety, sustainability and engineering excellence.
• A full driving licence with <6 penalty points.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary projects.
• Support concepts through detailed design, construction and commissioning.
• Collaborate with Strategic Planning Partners and Delivery Partners for high-quality outcomes.
• Review and assure design documentation to Yorkshire Water standards and regulations.
• Develop innovative, cost-effective engineering solutions aligned to TOTEX and life-cycle costs.
• Participate in design governance, value engineering and HAZOP/HAZCON.
• Drive standardisation, innovation and adoption of DfMA.
• Mentor engineers and graduates with leadership and technical guidance.
• Champion health, safety, sustainability and engineering quality.
