Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Wolverhampton is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to lead the development of electric actuation systems and subsystems across the product lifecycle.

You will guide concept through production, mentor engineers, and ensure design integrity, quality, and compliance with aerospace standards. The role is onsite at a new Collins facility with international travel <20%.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated experience in a design engineering environment.
• Experience leading generation of innovative design concepts for mechanical or electro‑mechanical systems.
• Proven ability to problem solve and drive solutions.
• Experience supporting failure investigations.
• Excellent written and oral communication across audiences.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead generation of innovative design concepts and configurations for electro‑mechanical actuation systems.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to design engineering teams.
• Review and approve design engineering deliverables.
• Support all stages of the product lifecycle from requirements through production.
• Ensure compliance with design processes and engineering standards.
• Develop optimized solutions balancing performance, weight, cost and manufacturability.
• Lead design reviews and present solutions to customers and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers and internal teams to resolve challenges.
