Job summary

Rise Technical Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Lead Design Engineer / Design Manager for a permanent, office-based role. You will lead a small design team, own the design process from enquiry to installation, and maintain high standards across GA, fabrication drawings and BOMs.

You will bring a strong mechanical/manufacturing background, solid modelling expertise in SolidWorks (and knowledge of AutoCAD), plus leadership to mentor engineers and manage multiple projects for bespoke engineered

Qualifications

• Senior mechanical design experience in manufacturing environments.
• Experience with sheet metal/steelwork projects is a plus.
• Proficient in GA, fabrication drawings and BOMs.

Commutable from: Huntingdon, Cambridge, Huntingdon, St Ives, Ely, Peterborough, St Neots, March, Wisbech, and surrounding areas

Are you a Lead Design Engineer, Design Manager or similar looking for a hands‑on role where you can take full ownership of design quality and standards, while leading a small team delivering bespoke engineered solutions?

On offer is a permanent, office‑based position with a specialist business where your work directly influences what projects are won and how successfully they are delivered, giving you real technical influence and responsibility from enquiry through to installation.

This well‑established engineering company designs, supplies and installs bespoke solutions for mission‑critical industries. Due to continued growth and a promotion backfill, they are looking to add an experienced engineer to lead their design function.

In this role you will manage and mentor a small design team while remaining hands‑on, producing and checking detailed drawings and BOMs, supporting internal stakeholders, and driving standards and continuous improvement across the design process.

This role would suit a senior design engineer, manager, supervisor or similar with a mechanical or manufacturing background, looking for a key position offering technical ownership, variety and long‑term stability within a specialist engineering environment.

The Role:

• Lead and develop a small design team while carrying your own design workload
• Produce and check GA, fabrication and installation drawings, plus BOMs
• Support projects from enquiry through to installation, ensuring designs are accurate and buildable

The Person:

• Proven background in mechanical/manufacturing design (sheet metal, steelwork or fabricated products ideal)
• Strong SolidWorks experience (parts, assemblies and drawings) plus working knowledge of AutoCAD is beneficial
• Comfortable leading/mentoring others and managing multiple projects and deadlines
