Placements24 is recruiting a Lead Data Scientist for a pioneering mining technology client in Randburg, Gauteng. You will lead a team of data scientists and engineers, shaping advanced analytics strategies across sensors, operations, and maintenance to optimize throughput and safety.

We seek a PhD or Master’s in a quantitative field with 7+ years of experience, strong Python or R skills, and experience with Spark/Hadoop and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in data science with a focus on ML and predictive modeling.
• Proven experience leading data science projects and mentoring team members.
• Proficiency in Python or R and libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and implementation of ML models and analytical solutions for mining applications.
• Extract, clean, and transform large datasets from sensors, logs, and surveys.
• Develop predictive models for equipment failure, production output, and safety incidents.
• Utilize statistical analysis and data mining to uncover insights.
• Collaborate with geologists and engineers to translate business problems into data solutions.
• Mentor junior data scientists and analysts.
• Communicate findings through visualizations and reports.
• Stay abreast of ML/AI advancements and manage DS projects end-to-end.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the lifecycle.
