Job summary

Hippo Digital Limited in Manchester is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to guide data engineering strategy and delivery. You will partner with multi-disciplinary teams to design scalable pipelines, leverage Snowflake and dbt, and lead technical delivery while maintaining client relationships.

The role emphasizes leadership, coaching, and contributing to pre-sales activities, with a strong focus on Agile practices and CI/CD in a consulting environment.

Qualifications

• Excellent experience delivering in Python and at least one other core language.
• Excellent experience of SQL and relational databases.
• Solid experience of Cloud providers such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Solid experience of working with Snowflake and dbt.
• Strong experience with data formats (CSV, JSON, XML).
• Experience operating as a technical leader on complex projects.
• Coaching and guiding others to optimal solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication in technical and non-technical terms.
• Agile environment and CI/CD practices.
• Ability to define team working procedures.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical SME within the Hippo engineering community to ensure user-centred software is developed based on business requirements and best practice.
• Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to design and deliver solutions to complex client problems.
• Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines, resolving issues and bottlenecks before they occur.
• Prioritise the delivery team’s workload and realign with evolving priorities.
• Present solutions and progress clearly to stakeholders.
• Build strong relationships with your team and stakeholders, overcoming challenges.
• Lead recruitment and onboarding of engineers and support consultants’ development.
• Lead on new business opportunities, writing technical bids and proposals.
• Promote Hippo’s Data Herd through blogs, workshops, or conferences.
