Job summary

National Highways is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to advance the DaaS roadmap, onboard enterprise data, and build scalable data pipelines. You will partner with stakeholders to deliver trusted data products, ensure governance, quality, and cost efficiency, and help shape data capabilities across the organisation.

The role is hybrid, with two days in the office per week, and offers the chance to work across diverse data domains in a major UK transport network.

Qualifications

• Experience building data pipelines and data integration in a collaborative delivery environment.
• Ability to analyse source systems and combine data from multiple sources for analytics.
• Proficiency with Python and SQL in cloud data platforms (Azure Databricks).
• Strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience maintaining production data pipelines and improving reliability and cost.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the DaaS roadmap by onboarding enterprise data and expanding analytics capabilities.
• Design, build and enhance data pipelines and reusable data assets.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs and deliver trusted data products.
• Embed data governance, quality, and metadata management across data lifecycle.
• Support operation and improvement of production data pipelines and platform capabilities.
• Promote data engineering best practices across the organisation.
