Job summary

National Highways is hiring a Lead Data Engineer to drive the DaaS roadmap, onboard enterprise data, and deliver trusted data products for operational and strategic decisions.

You will design and optimise data pipelines, work with Databricks, Power BI and ThoughtSpot, and promote governance across the data lifecycle while ensuring reliability and cost efficiency. The role is hybrid with two days in the office per week.

Qualifications

• Experience building and deploying data pipelines and data integration solutions in a collaborative delivery environment.
• Experience analysing source systems and complex datasets to create reusable data assets for analytics.
• Experience with Python, SQL and enterprise data platforms in cloud ecosystems (Azure, Databricks).
• Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and influence decisions.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the Data as a Service (DaaS) roadmap by onboarding enterprise data and expanding analytics capabilities.
• Design, build and enhance data pipelines, integrations and reusable data assets across platforms.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs, develop user stories and deliver trusted data products.
• Embed data governance, quality and metadata management across the lifecycle (Unity Catalog).
• Support production pipelines, monitor performance, and drive reliability and cost efficiency.
• Promote best practices and reusable engineering approaches across the organisation.
