Job summary

Pulse Healthcare seeks a Consultant in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry for the NHS team in Reading, Berkshire. This full-time post (40 hours/week) involves clinical leadership, outpatient clinics, and home visits, with multidisciplinary collaboration to improve outcomes for adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs.

You will lead on care plans, risk assessments, and service development while supervising junior medical staff within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician (AC) Status.
• CCT in Psychiatry of Learning Disability or within six months of achieving CCT at time of interview.
• Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion.
• Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and team-working skills.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and manage adults with learning disabilities who present with mental health conditions, behavioural challenges, or neurodevelopmental disorders.
• Lead on development of care plans and risk assessments.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staff.
• Manage outpatient clinics and home visits; collaborate with community teams, social care, and families.
• Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
