Job summary

Derby City Council is seeking a Lead Coach - Inclusion and Bikeability to coordinate delivery across schools, plan trainer schedules and mentor Cycle Trainers. You will also deliver inclusive cycling sessions and adapt activities to meet diverse needs, while helping to grow participation and reduce barriers to cycling.

The role involves hands-on training, team leadership and close collaboration with the Active Travel Coordinator to ensure safe, high-quality programmes.

Qualifications

• Strong organisational skills to coordinate people, activities and schedules across locations.
• Experience mentoring or supervising instructors, coaches or volunteers.
• Excellent communication with schools, colleagues, participants and partners.
• Ability to adapt coaching to meet diverse needs and create inclusive experiences.
• Good IT and digital skills to learn and use planning systems for information and bookings.
• Proactive, solution-focused approach to changing priorities and issues.
• Genuine commitment to inclusive cycling and reducing participation barriers.
• Desirable: recognised cycle instructor qualification or willingness to pursue National Standard Cycle Instructor qualification.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Bikeability delivery across schools and plan trainer schedules.
• Support schools and trainers with digital planning systems and issue resolution.
• Lead inclusive cycling sessions and adapt activities for participants with disabilities or additional needs.
• Deliver cycle training personally when required and cover for school deliveries.
• Provide day-to-day mentoring and supervision to Cycle Trainers.
• Develop new cycling opportunities and partnerships to increase participation.
• Manage information related to Bikeability, participation and delivery records.
• Experience in delivering cycle training or related cycling activities.
