Job summary

Pertemps Solihull is seeking an experienced Lead CNC Programmer to join our manufacturing team in Solihull on a Temp to Perm basis. You will program, set and operate CNC milling machines and mentor apprentices on the shop floor.

The role focuses on producing precise components safely, troubleshooting issues, interpreting drawings, and driving quality, continuous improvement and right-first-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in CNC milling programming, setting and operating.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances.
• Good knowledge of machining processes, tooling and materials.
• Experience with manual machinery and hand tools.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work safely, independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and confidence sharing technical knowledge.
• Ability to mentor apprentices and developing engineers.
• A proactive approach to continuous improvement.
• Strong commitment to quality, safety and right-first-time results.

Responsibilities

• Program, set and operate CNC milling machines to produce precision components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Work with a range of materials and manufacturing processes.
• Ensure components meet required tolerances and timescales.
• Support and supervise trainee setups, encouraging practical problem-solving skills.
• Mentor apprentices and less experienced team members, sharing technical knowledge and best practice.
• Set and operate manual machinery and use a range of hand tools.
• Troubleshoot machining and manufacturing issues.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and maintain equipment appropriately.
• Work independently and as part of a wider manufacturing team.
• Communicate effectively with CNC setters, operators, supervisors and the Manufacturing Manager.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety.
• Contribute to improvements in productivity, safety and product quality.
• Maintain 6S standards and promote a right-first-time approach.
