Job summary

Genomics England is seeking a Lead Genomic Data Scientist to guide cancer genome analysis within the Bioinformatics Consulting team. You will lead projects for researchers and industrial partners, shaping solutions from design to delivery.

The role blends technical leadership with people management, emphasizing high-quality code, reproducible workflows, and effective communication with diverse stakeholders across internal and external teams.

Qualifications

• PhD degree or equivalent practical experience in an industry setting.
• Experience leading collaborative genomic projects and teams.
• Strong Python coding skills and reproducible workflows.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and scientific leadership in cancer genome analysis.
• Serve as main contact for consulting collaborations with stakeholders.
• Develop and promote best practices for genome analysis at Genomics England.
• Lead end-to-end complex genomic analysis projects including design, implementation, and documentation.
• Benchmark and improve tools for processing, analysis, and interpretation of whole genome data.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
• Apply statistical genetics methods to derive insights from large genomic datasets.
• Lead and grow an inclusive, high-performing analytical team.
