Job summary

Genomics England is seeking a Genomic Data Scientist for a 12-month fixed-term contract, based primarily in our Canary Wharf office with some hybrid working. You will analyze germline and somatic variants for our cancer pipeline, developing high-quality, reusable code and leveraging Python and R.

Ideal candidates have a PhD or equivalent, strong statistics/Machine Learning skills, and experience with NGS data analysis in cancer genomics, collaborating in cross-functional teams within an

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent practical experience in industry setting.
• Proficiency in Python and R for data processing.
• Knowledge of statistics and/or machine learning.
• Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing algorithms.
• Expertise in cancer genomics, interpreting genomic data through pathways.
• Hands-on coding with Git and CI/CD.
• Experience in cross-functional analytical teams.

Responsibilities

• Developing and fine-tuning algorithms for variant prioritization and classification for cancer diagnostics and screening.
• Benchmarking and improving tools for processing and analyzing whole genome data and performing custom computational analyses.
• Managing the full cycle of NGS data analysis, from sequencing QC to annotation and prioritization of variants.
