Job summary

Wise is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer (IC4) to shape architecture across our KYC and Onboarding platforms. You’ll lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and deliver scalable, secure backend services using Java, Spring Boot and cloud technologies.

In a fast-growing fintech, you’ll align engineering with product goals, translate complex requirements into robust solutions, improve automation and reliability, and help customers onboard quickly and safely across borders.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Java experience with recent Spring framework expertise.
• Strong design skills for distributed, high-throughput services.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
• Knowledge of security and data protection best practices.
• Experience in fintech or KYC verification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain high-performance backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud technologies.
• Lead technical initiatives to improve automation, reliability, and performance.
• Collaborate with product managers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to code reviews.
• Drive architectural decisions and develop internal tooling.
