Job summary

Aave Labs is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer to lead the Push backend, a regulated, non‑custodial on‑ramp/off‑ramp product. You will set technical direction, oversee architecture, and ensure security and resilience across payment flows and on‑chain settlement.

The role combines hands‑on coding with day‑to‑day engineering leadership, working with product, compliance, and security teams to deliver high‑integrity financial infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 8+ years backend engineering experience.
• Senior technical leadership of production systems.
• Experience with distributed, event‑driven systems.
• Regulated financial products experience.
• Strong API design and service integration.

Responsibilities

• Own technical direction for Push backend across services and on‑chain settlement.
• Translate product, regulatory, and operational requirements into an engineering roadmap.
• Design and build resilient on‑ramp and off‑ramp services for transaction lifecycles.
• Lead integrations with open‑banking, payments, identity, compliance, and blockchain infra.
• Define secure boundaries between fiat systems, wallets, and on‑chain execution; enforce data permissions and signing flows.
• Set and uphold standards for secure development, architecture review, testing, observability, and on‑call ownership.
• Partner with Product, Compliance, Legal, Security, Operations, and engineers.
• Remain hands‑on in codebase for complex architecture and critical issues.
