Aave Labs in London, UK, is hiring a Principal Backend Engineer to lead the Push backend team. You will shape the technical direction for onramps and off-ramps, ensure correctness, security, auditability, and resilience, and mentor engineers across product, compliance, and security.

You will design and implement distributed, event-driven services, own integration with open-banking, payments, and blockchain infrastructure, and stay hands-on on critical code paths while guiding the team to deliver

Qualifications

• 8+ years backend engineering experience, including senior technical leadership of production systems.
• Experience designing distributed, event-driven systems with real-money implications.
• Experience with regulated financial products and balancing compliance with product goals.
• Strong backend programming skills; Rust preferred; Go/Java/C++ acceptable substitutions.
• Strong knowledge of API design and relational databases (PostgreSQL).
• Experience in regulated fintech, payments, or digital assets.

Responsabilités

• Own the technical direction and architecture for Push backend services and on-chain settlement.
• Translate product and regulatory requirements into a clear engineering roadmap.
• Design and build resilient, end-to-end on-ramp/off-ramp services and customer notifications.
• Lead integrations with open-banking, payments, identity, compliance, and blockchain providers.
• Define secure boundaries between fiat systems, wallets, and on-chain execution; ensure data protection.
• Set standards for secure development, architecture reviews, testing, observability, and on-call ownership.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Compliance, Legal, Security, and Operations teams.
• Remain hands-on in critical production issues and complex architecture.
