Job summary

Aveni is redefining how financial institutions use AI, building production-ready agentic systems for banks and advisory firms. The Technical Lead will own platform architecture, drive scalable AWS-based services, and evolve data ingestion and client-CRM integrations in a heavily regulated space.

The role combines hands-on coding with technical leadership, mentoring engineers and shaping governance through Architecture Review Board discussions.

Qualifications

• Significant software engineering experience with technical leadership.
• Production experience with Node.js across backend and APIs.
• Strong experience designing and operating cloud-native systems on AWS.
• Experience building event-driven architectures and asynchronous distributed systems.
• Experience designing production systems with multi-tenancy and data isolation.
• Strong experience integrating with third-party APIs and handling rate limits, retries and reconciliation.
• Strong understanding of reliability, observability, security and operational ownership.
• Experience mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards.
• Production experience with Python alongside Node.js.
• Experience with identity and access management technologies such as Auth0, AWS Cognito or similar.
• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0 and authentication/authorisation patterns.
• Experience in financial services or a regulated environment.
• Experience handling data residency, retention and GDPR erasure at scale.
• Experience contributing to Architecture Review Boards or similar governance forums.
• Experience establishing or improving AI-assisted software engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and direction of core platform services.
• Design and build scalable, event-driven services on AWS.
• Develop and evolve client-data ingestion capabilities for onboarding new clients and sources.
• Build and maintain APIs for consuming client and CRM data.
• Design robust multi-tenant systems with data isolation, security and controls.
• Lead data lifecycle management, retention, residency and GDPR compliance.
• Create resilient integrations with third-party platforms and APIs, with authentication, retries and reconciliation.
• Document architectural decisions and represent Core Services in Architecture Review Board discussions.
• Raise engineering standards across testing, observability, security, reliability and ownership.
• Remain hands-on with production code, primarily Node.js and AWS.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, design reviews and technical coaching.
• Support AI-assisted engineering tools while maintaining strong engineering judgement.
