Job summary

ReVybe IT Recruitment Limited is seeking a Lead Azure Platform Engineer to own and evolve the Azure platform for a fintech scaleup. You will lead a small team while spending roughly half your time delivering hands-on cloud infrastructure and enabling rapid delivery.

You will define architectural direction, drive best practices, and collaborate with engineering leadership to shape the platform's long-term strategy. This role offers a 50/50 split between hands-on work and leadership.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to own and evolve cloud platforms on Microsoft Azure.
• Experience designing and implementing cloud infrastructure at scale.
• Strong background in Terraform and IaC.
• Experience leading a small engineering team and mentoring engineers.

We're working with an ambitious fintech scaleup looking for a Lead Azure Platform Engineer to take ownership of its cloud platform, lead a small team of talented engineers, and help shape the future of its technology.

This is an opportunity to join a growing business where you'll have the autonomy to influence architectural decisions, drive engineering best practices, and define how the Azure platform evolves as the business continues to scale.

The role offers a genuine 50/50 split between hands-on engineering and technical leadership, making it ideal for someone who enjoys getting into the detail technically while leading a team and setting the wider platform direction.

The Role

You’ll lead a team of three platform engineers, taking ownership of the design, development, security, and ongoing evolution of the Azure platform.

Working closely with engineering leadership and wider technology teams, you’ll have the opportunity to challenge existing approaches, introduce new ideas, and make meaningful decisions about the technologies, architecture, and engineering practices that underpin the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Azure Platform Engineering: Take ownership of the Azure platform, designing and evolving cloud infrastructure to support the business as it grows.
• Technical Leadership: Define the platform roadmap, establish technical standards, and influence architectural decisions across the wider engineering function.
• Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of three engineers, encouraging collaboration, technical excellence, and a strong sense of ownership.
• Hands-on Engineering: Spend around 50% of your time designing, building, and improving cloud infrastructure, automation, and platform services.
• Infrastructure as Code: Drive the use of Terraform to automate infrastructure provisioning and management, ensuring consistency, scalability, and repeatability.
• Containerisation & Orchestration: Design and maintain container-based platforms using Kubernetes and/or Azure Container Apps.
• CI/CD & Automation: Develop and optimise deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, improving delivery speed, reliability, and developer experience.
• Architecture & Design: Establish and promote architectural patterns and cloud engineering best practices, ensuring the platform remains scalable, resilient, and maintainable.
• Cloud Security: Embed security into the platform through robust Azure security practices, identity and access management, governance, and secure-by-design principles.
• Platform Optimisation: Identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, scalability, and operational efficiency across the Azure environment.
• Continuous Improvement: Take ownership of technical challenges, introduce new approaches, and help shape the future direction of the platform as the business scales.

What We’re Looking For

We're looking for a technically strong Azure engineer who enjoys taking ownership, solving complex infrastructure challenges, and leading others.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Strong hands-on experience designing, building, and managing cloud infrastructure within Microsoft Azure.
• In-depth knowledge of Azure services and cloud‑native architecture.
• Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with Kubernetes and/or Azure Container Apps.
• Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.
• A solid understanding of architectural patterns, platform design, and scalable cloud infrastructure.
• Experience implementing cloud security best practices and securing Azure environments.
• Previous experience in a technical leadership role, mentoring engineers, or leading a platform engineering team.
• The ability to balance hands‑on technical delivery with leadership, planning, and architectural decision‑making.
• A proactive, ownership‑driven mindset, with the confidence to challenge the status quo and influence technical direction.

You’ll be someone who enjoys staying close to the technology while taking responsibility for the bigger picture. You’ll be comfortable making technical decisions, supporting the development of others, and driving improvements across the platform.
