Job summary

National Grid Recruitment is seeking an Electricity Distribution Engineering Specialist to lead HV projects across our 132kV/33kV network from Stoke. You will install, commission and deliver critical infrastructure while mentoring teams and maintaining safety standards.

The role requires Senior Authorised Person credentials, City & Guilds 2339 and HNC qualifications, with opportunities for travel and standby duties as needed to support outages and outages root cause analysis.

Qualifications

• Practical knowledge of protection and control systems and commissioning experience.
• Experience with high‑voltage equipment and 132kV networks.
• Strong understanding of health and safety practices in high hazard environments.
• Ability to manage projects and report on financials and progress.
• Willingness to travel and participate in standby rota.

Responsibilities

• Installation and commissioning of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems on 132kV/33kV networks.
• Manage projects using the APMP framework; report KPIs across lifecycle.
• Advise on innovations in electricity network management and automation.
• Identify and address training needs for team members.
• Liaise with other specialists within the Company.
• Carry out network operations including safety documentation up to 132kV.
• Issue planned outages and third‑party shutdown notices; coordinate with customers.
• Exercise leadership and request assistance when required.
• Adjust short‑term program to changing circumstances; align with constraints.
• Assist with assessment and authorisation of operational staff.
• Possibility of standby duties on a predefined rota.
