Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking an Engineering Specialist to join the Maintenance and Faults Projects team. The role focuses on installation, commissioning, and delivery of critical 132kV/33kV infrastructure across the distribution network.

You will lead technically challenging projects, monitor KPIs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, reliable network operations. Some travel and standby duties are involved.

Qualifications

• Practical knowledge of protection and control systems.
• City & Guilds 2339 Level 3; HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering if not yet qualified.
• Senior Authorised Person on 132kV network (preferably).
• Experience in high-hazard industry with strong health & safety focus.
• Experience in managing projects, including financial monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Installation and commissioning of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems on the 132kV and 33kV network.
• Manage a range of projects using the APMP model and report on KPIs during their lifecycle.
• Advise team on innovations in electricity network management and automation.
• Identify training needs and provide necessary training.
• Liaise with other specialists and carry out safety documentation up to 132kV.
• Lead standby duties and adjust short-term programme as needed.
