Job summary

Theo James Recruitment Ltd is assisting Ferryhill-based manufacturing client in filling a Laser / Punching Operator role. The position involves setting and operating laser cutting machinery, reading engineering drawings, and ensuring components meet tight quality standards.

Applicants should have experience with Trumpf or Bystronic laser systems, be able to work independently, and operate from detailed drawings. On-site role with shift rotation and overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating Trumpf or Bystronic laser machinery.
• Experience with fibre and/or CO2 laser cutting equipment.
• Ability to independently operate and set machinery.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings.
• Ability to interpret both first and second angle projection is essential.

Job description

Job Title: Laser / Punching Operator

Location: Ferryhill

Salary: £15.25 per hour (including shift allowance) + Overtime

Working Hours:

• 38.5 hours per week on a rotating two-shift pattern:
• Early Shift: Monday-Thursday, 6:00am-2:30pm; Friday, 6:00am-12:30pm
• Late Shift: Monday-Thursday, 2:30pm-11:00pm; Friday, 12:30pm-7:00pm

The successful candidate will complete their first-day induction on day shift before moving onto the two-shift rotation.

This Company is a leading manufacturing business based in Ferryhill, producing high-quality fabricated and manufactured components. This opportunity would suit an experienced laser operator who is confident running machinery independently and working accurately from engineering drawings.

Job Description

This Laser / Punching Operator position involves operating and setting laser cutting machinery within the production environment. You will work independently through a variety of jobs while ensuring components are produced accurately and inspected to the required quality standards.

• Operate Trumpf or Bystronic fibre and CO2 laser machinery.
• Set machine tools for individual production jobs.
• Work independently through varying production requirements.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Work with both first and third angle projection drawings.
• Carry out in-process inspections at the required frequency.
• Ensure manufactured components meet the required quality standards.
• Monitor machine operation throughout the production process.
• Follow all relevant production and health and safety procedures.
• Work effectively as part of the wider production team.
• Operate Trumpf punching machinery where experience allows.

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience operating Trumpf or Bystronic laser machinery.
• Experience with fibre and/or CO2 laser cutting equipment.
• Ability to independently operate and set machinery.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings.
• Ability to interpret both first and third angle projection is essential.
• Ability to carry out accurate in-process inspections.
• Ability to work effectively without close supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Previous experience operating Trumpf punch machinery would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Candidates without punching experience may have the opportunity to receive future training depending on performance.
