Job summary

Totally Local Company is seeking an Environmental Operative 3 (Large Mechanical Sweeper Driver) to join the Streetcare Team in Stockport. The role involves operating a Large Mechanical Sweeper, performing daily vehicle checks, and carrying out cleansing duties across the borough for residents, visitors and businesses.

You will contribute to street cleansing and grounds maintenance with a strong emphasis on safety and professionalism, working a 37-hour week on a compressed schedule.

Qualifications

• Experience operating/driving a Large Mechanical Sweeper or transferable driving skills
• Proficient in vehicle checks and basic maintenance tasks
• Ability to work safely and professionally in a street cleaning environment

Responsibilities

• Drive/operate a Large Mechanical Sweeper and, when required, drive tippers or other sweepers
• Carry out daily pre-use vehicle checks, brush maintenance and defect reporting
• Hold a Driver Digital Tachograph Card and use it appropriately
• Undertake cleansing duties to defined standards including litter picking and debris removal
• Plan workload objectives with staff and monitor performance to ensure efficient service delivery
• Report concerns to supervisors and participate in CPD for professional development

Shift: Compressed hours, working 4x 9.25hrs a day, having 1x rolling day off in the week Monday to Friday.

Minimum Driving Licence Requirement: HGV Class 2 - Category C Licence

At Totally Local Company an opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Operative 3 (Large Mechanical Sweeper Driver) who possess’ a professional demeanour, sound judgement and integrity to join the Streetcare Team.

Experience:

To have practical experience in operating/driving a Large Mechanical Sweeper, or possess transferable skills and experience to be able to complete this role.

Main Purpose of the Job:

To contribute to the achievement of the key objective for Environmental Services by undertaking a comprehensive range of flexible, responsive and planned duties within the company. These duties will include both Street Cleansing and Grounds Maintenance and other activities that impact on the street environment. These services are primarily to residents, visitors and businesses within the borough but may also include commercial work outside of the borough.

Duties and Responsibilities:

General

• To drive/operate a Large Mechanical Sweeper, and when required drive tippers, Small Mechanical Sweepers and other vehicles
• Responsible for daily pre use vehicle checks and adjustments, brush maintenance, routine cleaning, and defect reporting
• To hold a Driver Digital Tachograph Card and be proficient in its use

Cleansing

• To undertake cleansing duties allocated by the supervisor in accordance with agreed procedures to defined standards. They are generally connected to the cleanliness of the environment.
• This includes sweeping, cleaning, litter picking, emptying litterbins, the removal of weeds and all types of debris and refuse, including sharp, dead animals and faeces.
• When working with a team to act as Charge hand allocating the work of the team to members and monitor the standard and performance .
• You are required to work in a professional manner and to undertake all tasks associated with the post safely.
• The post holder must comply with all requirements regarding health, safety and welfare and must ensure that their work activities do not expose other persons, e.g. colleagues and members of the public to unnecessary risks.
• To allocate the work of the team to members and monitor the standard and performance.
• To report to operational supervisors any concerns to allow them to address performance and other staff related issues.
• To plan workload objectives with staff to ensure that an effective service is provided at all times by the monitoring of manual operatives.
