Addysg Oedolion Cymru I Adult Learning Wales is seeking a Language Development Assistant to support language development in the Foundation Phase across Flintshire schools. The role is part-time (27.5 hours per week), term-time only, with a fixed term ending March 2027.
You will work with schools, officers and parents to improve language outcomes for both monolingual and bilingual pupils, including refugees and other EAL learners, while respecting diverse languages, cultures and religions.
Salary: £24,796 to £25,185 FTE 2026 Pay Award Pending 27.5 hours per week Term Time Only Fixed term until March 2027
The LA is seeking to appoint a committed teaching assistant to work in collaboration with schools, officers and parents to further develop and extend the language skills of pupils within the Foundation Phase. This may include refugees and other pupils for whom English is an additional language.
Key responsibilities will include supporting curriculum access, modelling appropriate language patterns and employing effective strategies to improve the language outcomes of both monolingual and bilingual pupils. An empathetic approach to children learning English as an additional language is essential, as is respect for individual pupils’ language, culture and religion. Knowledge of strategies to support language development with either EAL pupils or pupils with specific language needs would be beneficial.
