Job summary

Sanctuary Group in Ashton under Lyne is hiring a Landscape Technician Charge Hand. The role involves supervising a small team, performing grounds maintenance and landscaping, and driving company vehicles with a UK licence. You will apply horticultural practices and ensure safety and records are kept.

The package includes a salary of £27,964–£29,436 per year, 40 hours weekly, with a view to progression after 12 months subject to performance. Closing date 15 September 2026.

Qualifications

• NVQ3 or equivalent in Horticulture or similar discipline.
• Pesticide Application Certificate PA1–PA6 (or equivalent).
• Some practical experience of operating machinery and recent experience of undertaking a similar role.
• Some experience in supervising others.
• Some experience interpreting written instructions and maintaining simple written records.
• Full valid UK driving licence (driving company vehicles).

Responsibilities

• Grounds maintenance using commercial tools, machinery and chemicals to keep estates neat and safe.
• Carrying out ad-hoc tasks such as flytip removal, jet washing, planting and landscaping as instructed.
• Provide supervisory support to keep estates well maintained.
• Record progress and information using a smartphone/tablet and Smart Forms.
• Respond to complaints and breakdowns to meet customer expectations.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good condition and safe for use.
• Carry out hazardous tasks like spraying following supplier guidelines and health & safety rules.

Landscape Technician Charge Hand

Ashton under Lyne

£27,964 - £29,436 per year

40 hours per week

We have an opportunity for a Landscape Technician Chargehand to join our Estates Team. You will be working in a team of two with occasional lone working.

This role is to provide an effective estate maintenance service and supervisory support that meets contract and customer expectations by applying appropriate horticultural practices. This will involve tasks such as but not limited too lawn maintenance (using a range of equipment including ride ons), weed control, bed and hedge maintenance, flytip collection and removal and working at height.

This role requires a UK driving licence and willingness to drive large wheelbase vehicles.

The role of Landscape Technician Charge Hand will include:

• Grounds maintenance application utilising commercial grade tools, machinery and chemicals to ensure estates are kept neat, tidy and safe


• Carrying out ad-hoc tasks as instructed including but not limited to, flytip removal, bin store clean and clear, jet washing, planting/landscaping etc.


• Providing supervisory support in keeping estates well maintained and clean in accordance with appropriate horticultural practices as required


• Providing accurate and timely information on progress and advice and ensure accurate daily work records are completed. This will involve the use of a smartphone or tablet in order to complete Smart Forms capturing such information as attendance, risk assessments, machinery and vehicle checks


• Responding positively to complaints and breakdowns in service delivery to meet customer expectations and escape complaints as appropriate


• Ensuring tools and equipment are maintained in good condition and continue to be suitable for required tasks


• Using equipment and materials in a safe manner as instructed


• Carrying out all hazardous tasks such as spraying, in accordance with supplier guidelines and in a safe manner, ensuring relevant records are maintained to comply with health and safety and legal requirements

• This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence
