Job summary

Lead Careers is assisting a leading independent practice in Cambridgeshire in their search for a Senior Landscape Planner. You will take the lead on landscape and visual impact assessments, driving the design process in line with planning guidelines.

You will mentor junior staff, work across multidisciplinary teams on masterplanning and environmental initiatives, and contribute to assessments of Green Belt and protected landscapes. GIS experience is welcome but not essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Landscape Architecture is required.
  • CMLI membership is preferred.
  • Experience with landscape and visual impact assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of LVIA guidelines and methodologies.
  • Understanding of Green Belt and protected landscapes.
  • Familiar with UK planning legislation.
  • Experience in consultancy and leading assessments.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff.

Role - Senior Landscape Planner

Location - Cambridgeshire

Salary - £DOE

A leading independent, employee-owned practice specialising in landscape architecture, urban design, and planning. With a team of over 170 people across over 8 offices they work a diverse range of projects, from masterplanning new developments and regenerating urban areas to designing sustainable infrastructure and supporting environmental initiatives.

THE ROLE

In this Senior Landscape Planner role, you'll take the lead on landscape and visual impact assessments, driving the design process while keeping things aligned with relevant guidelines. You'll work closely with junior staff, helping them grow, while also collaborating across teams to create environmentally thoughtful masterplans. Your role will involve managing projects, offering creative solutions, and contributing to assessments of Green Belt and protected landscapes. If you have GIS experience or are comfortable as an expert witness, that's a bonus, but it's more about your approach and teamwork.

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in Landscape Architecture
  • A Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (CMLI)
  • Strong background in landscape and visual impact assessments
  • Passion for context-driven masterplanning and design
  • Familiar with LVIA guidelines and relevant landscape assessment methodologies
  • Knowledge of landscape character assessments, Green Belt, and protected landscape evaluations
  • Understanding of UK planning legislation and policies
  • Creative, collaborative approach to environmental considerations in design
  • Experience in project management and multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in consultancy, leading assessments, and mentoring junior staff
  • GIS skills and expert witness experience a plus
