Job summary

ALS is a global testing laboratory focused on food safety and quality. As a Laboratory Technician, you’ll perform microbiological testing on food samples, maintain cleanliness, prepare media, and operate lab equipment in a structured environment.

Qualifications

  • Educated to A level (or equivalent) in a science-related subject or with relevant laboratory experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining laboratory cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team and respond positively to feedback.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a flexible approach to working hours and changing priorities.
  • Able to manage workload effectively and meet required deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, problem-solving skills, and a proactive attitude toward learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing on food samples, including weighing, diluting, and preparing samples using aseptic techniques.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic workstation in line with departmental cleaning schedules.
  • Prepare and supplement media, conduct volume checks, and operate laboratory equipment such as media preparators and pourer stackers.
  • Ensure all samples are handled safely and accurately; dispose of waste and clean utensils promptly.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet testing deadlines and departmental targets.
