Job summary

ALS in Prescot is seeking a motivated Balance Operator to join our laboratory team. You will mix and blend samples, weigh them accurately, operate weighing and drying equipment, and support analytical inspection in an ISO 17025 lab.

We offer training, 37.5 hour week, with an initial two-week training period Mon-Fri 07:30-16:00, followed by rotating shifts 06:00-14:00 and 13:30-21:30 with a £3,250 per annum shift allowance. Closing date 17 September 2026.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths required or desirable.
  • Previous laboratory experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages.

Responsibilities

  • Mix and blend samples to ensure complete homogenisation.
  • Weigh samples accurately and efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain weighing and sample-drying equipment.
  • Interpret analytical data accurately.
  • Replenish materials and support laboratory processes.
  • Maintain a clean, organised Balance Room and work with team members.

Reporting to the Departmental Manager, you will play an important role in providing accurate and precise measurements of commodities, supporting the efficient completion of analytical inspection processes within an ISO 17025 analytical laboratory.
