Job Title: Laboratory Manager - Sustainable Energy Materials Group
This position is for a Laboratory Manager responsible for the Sustainable Energy Materials Group (SEMG) laboratories, including equipment management, testing activities, safety, staff and student training, and lab discipline.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report to the Department Services and Safety Manager to ensure safe laboratory operations.
- Collaborate with researchers on materials synthesis, battery assembly and testing, power-to-X technologies, and materials characterization.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and coordinate procurement and installation of new equipment.
- Set up and manage online resources such as booking systems, protocols, and data management.
- Liaise with university facilities and service engineers for equipment maintenance.
- Ensure all laboratory users are trained and adhere to safety protocols and risk assessments.
- Manage budgets for consumables and small equipment procurement.
- Support safety and maintenance activities across the Department of Chemical Engineering as directed.
- Stay updated on instrumentation, analytical protocols, and safety through workshops and conferences.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent.
- Experience with electrochemistry, glove boxes, and maintenance/regeneration of such equipment.
- Experience working in a chemical research laboratory, including operation and maintenance of instruments and chemical synthesis.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety and COSHH regulations.
- Proficiency in wet chemistry laboratory techniques.
