Job summary

Matchtech Group is recruiting a Chemometrics Technician to join a state-of-the-art R&D facility near Southampton. This role supports cutting-edge analytical chemistry, data science and chemometric methodologies within a dedicated centre of excellence.

You will apply chemometric techniques to challenging projects, process data from GC/LC-MS and other analytics, and contribute to new method development. The 35-hour week is on-site, with a minimum 6-month temporary contract and potential extension,

Qualifications

• Experience with chemometrics, including supervised and unsupervised methods.
• Strong statistical knowledge (ANOVA, hypothesis tests, multivariate analysis).
• Experience analyzing analytical chemistry data (GC/LC-MS).
• Excellent communication of complex results to technical and non-technical audiences.

Location: Southampton (5 days per week on-site)
Contract: Temporary, minimum 6-month contract with potential extension
Hours: 35 hours per week
Pay Rate: £18.51 per hour (PAYE)

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a Chemometrics Technician to join a state-of-the-art Research & Development facility near Southampton. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist Applied Chemometrics Centre of Excellence, supporting cutting-edge scientific projects through the application of analytical chemistry, data science and chemometric methodologies.

Working as part of a highly skilled laboratory team, you will help deliver robust chemical and sensory analysis, process complex datasets and contribute to the development of innovative analytical capabilities that support product development and scientific research.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply chemometric techniques and methodologies to support chemical and sensory assessment projects.
• Process and analyse data generated through a range of analytical chemistry techniques, ensuring quality, accuracy and compliance.
• Provide analytical chemistry and chemometrics expertise to support reliable and scientifically robust results.
• Assist in the development of new analytical methods and capabilities to meet evolving business requirements.
• Support the application of chemometrics across a variety of product development and research programmes.
• Interpret complex data and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory and analytical functions.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong scientific background combined with experience of chemometrics, analytical chemistry and data analysis.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Practical experience of chemometrics, including supervised and unsupervised statistical methods.
• Knowledge of analytical statistics such as ANOVA, hypothesis testing and comparative data analysis.
• Experience using data science programming languages such as Python, MATLAB or R.
• Previous experience working within a chemistry or analytical laboratory environment.
• Experience handling and interpreting analytical chemistry data, ideally from chromatographic techniques (GC, LC) and spectrometric methods (MS).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to develop solutions to technical challenges and contribute to process improvement.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Self-motivated, proactive and adaptable, with a genuine interest in scientific innovation and continuous learning.
• Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Qualifications

• MSc, MPhil or PhD in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences, Food Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related scientific discipline.
• Strong statistical knowledge, including hypothesis testing, data analysis and multivariate interpretation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to work with laboratory databases and data management systems.
